Happy 1st Birthday to Cupcake Central Hawthorn!
One year ago, our dream came true and we opened our doors of our first store on Glenferrie Road, Hawthorn. It has been the most amazing experience and every day we get to learn, meet the best customers, have fun working with our friends (that started off as staff) and we get to make people happy. It's the best job in the world!
I remember the first day we opened, my brother William (aka Barista/Manager Will), Tin (aka Bossman), Dano (Tin's younger bro, who had a dream to open his Schnitz store and is achieving that dream next week!) we were all working for practically no pay and had very little experience running a cafe. We were running around crazy, buying tea towels because we had no idea we needed them, serving customers, washing dishes, baking cupcakes and basically having the time of our lives. Our feet had never been so sore, they would throb for ages when we hit the sack, everyone had felt physical pain they had never felt before. It was awesome. A year later, we've got an amazing team of bakers and waitstaff that we could not live without, they even all hang out together as friends. We've opened our second store and our dream is growing like never before. They say that the life of the business depends on the first 3 months of trade and from day one, we had the support of the most passionate, loyal customers that make me choke with tears of joy when I think of the feedback I've gotten over the past year. All those days I spent baking alone in the early hours of the morning, all those difficult times I felt that 'this couldn't work', all the times I had to sacrifice my nights out with friends, when I didn't have enough money to get a new outfit, the impossible early morning starts, working till my feet were crying for me to sit down. It was all worth it. It all starts with a dream and if you have absolute belief in your 'ability and strength of purpose' there is no such thing as failure. Thank you to each and every one of you, whether you have been a customer of ours or someone who has been reading my blog, supporting us from afar. We couldn't have hatched this dream without you.
